Features
PIP
PIP stands for Picture in Picture, this is where the secondary picture can be displayed in the corner of the screen.
PAP
PAP stands for Picture and Picture, this is where there are two pictures side by side.
USB
USB (Universal Serial Bus) enables users to plug peripherals such as powered speakers or printers to the computer.
Speakers
Speakers can be built into the monitor if there is no sound card in the PC, or in the case of large LFDs, they can be attached. Philips LFDs have them built in.
Webcams
Webcams are sometimes integrated in PC monitors to enable video communication.
TV tuner
TV tuner Some LCD's allow you to watch TV on the computer screen with a built in TV tuner.
Viewing angles
As users move away from the screen (left or right) the quality of picture decreases unless there is a good viewing angle.
Height Adjustable
If a flat panel is height adjustable it allows the user to move the screen up or down to give the optimum viewing height.
Portrait/Landscape
The portrait and landscape feature enables users to view their screen in either mode. Portrait is commonly used for digital point-of-sale displays.
Hard Glass
Hard glass is traditionally used in the education market with strengthened glass to protect the usual thin screen.
Touchscreen
The touch screen is commonly used for retail and POS applications.

Dot pitch
The dot pitch is the size of each pixel on the screen - the smaller the better as more dots on the screen enhances picture resolution.
Resolution
The resolution is the number of pixels a screen can fit - 17" standard is 1280 x 1024. Larger screens will have a better resolution due to size.
Contrast Ratio
The contrast is measured as a ratio (eg 700:1 or 1500:1). The higher the ratio, the blacker the blacks and the whiter the whites.
Response rate
The response rate is the speed the pixels refresh, gaming and film users will need faster response rates to optimise viewing.
Brightness
Brightness is measured in cd/m2 - candella per sq/m, the higher the cd/m2 the brighter the image. This is a measure of light emitted from a surface.
LCD
LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. In Large Format Displays LCD screens range from 32" through to 108".
Plasma
Plasma Screens range from 42" to 103" and are generally regarded as producing a better picture when it comes to the home cinema experience, they are normally cheaper than their LCD alternatives.
LFD
LFD stands for "Large Format Display". LFD monitors are >32" and are built to be used in commercial environments. Much stronger than their consumer "TV" alternatives they are slightly more expensive, but built to be used 24/7 and with a half life of 60,000 + hours. Warranty on LFD panels are normally circa 3 years with "on site" replacement.
HD Ready
Screens reagrded as being HD Ready are required to have a resolution of no less than 720p or W-XGA and HDMI connectivity.
Full HD Ready
Full HD Ready screens have a minimum resolution of 1080p of W-UXGA and HDMI connectivity.
Smart Power
Smart Power is a Philips technology that enables superior energy savings.
Wireless Smart Loader
The wireless smart loader is a remote control that allows settings to be copied from screen to screen, without the need to re-programme them.
SmartCard Express
The Smart Card Express is a range of optional cards for the Philips range of LFD's.
RS232
The RS323 stands for Recommended Standard 232. This is the industry standard for serial binary data controls which connect between a Data Terminal Equiptment and a Data Circuit-terminating Equiptment.
Thin Bezel
The reduced bezel width presents a sleeker, slimmer image that is ideal for incorporation into effective, high impact, multi-display scenarios.
1080p
1080p means the flat panel is Full HD and has a 1920 x 10 resolution.
100Hz
100Hz is the refresh rate (the rate at which the picture re-freshes at). 100Hz meens it refreshes 100 times per second and 50Hz means it refeshes 50 times per second.
Built in Speakers
A flat panel with built in speakers has speakers built into the monitor.
Optional Speakers
A flat panel with option speakers meens speakers are an additional option.
Built in Magic Info Digital Signage software
Built in Magic Info Digital Signage software means there is digital signage software built-in.
PC Loop Through
A PC loop through is when the screen has an output connector that replicates the input, allowing users to daisy chain the screens together using the PC input.
