Aspect Ratio

The aspect ratio refers to the image size.  Traditional interactive white boards are made in 4:3 aspect ratio, however, more recent units are moving to 16:9 reflecting the fact that the majority of computers and notebook computers are displaying 16:9 images.

Data Capture

Many forms of interactive technology allow the user to create additional data; for instance by writing on an interactive white board which is then digitally captured and transferred to the original computerised data.

*

Touch Screen

As the name suggests this allows the user to simply touch the screen to convey a command. This removes the need for user training and inherent skills as well as removing the need for traditional forms of control such as keyboards and mouse. In public areas this can be an excellent security feature as well as allowing full accessibility.

*

Re-chargeable pen

Many manufacturers of interactive boards now provide re-chargeable digital pens which reduce the total cost of ownership.

*

Wireless Technology

Increasingly products are being introduced that appear to be mini-versions of the larger interactive product. By using these smaller devices the image or data appears wirelessly on the main interactive device. These products can have a wide range of applications such as in training rooms where the smaller wireless device can be passed around between delegates rather than having people come to the front of the room. This can also be of great use where delegates have disabilities and can not interact in full with the standard device.
